Social media can be great, there is a reason why you use it.
Not even a reason, I should say reasons. There is so much you can do on social media.
Checking posts of influencers for example, that’s at least kind of fun right.
Okay maybe not “fun” but it is somehow satisfying, that’s why you keep doing it.
This is a reason people complain about social media, because of that “compare and despair” effect.
You expose yourself to highlight reels and start to feel bad about yourself and your life.
Aside negative aspects that don’t really add anything positive to your life, there are positive aspects.
Positive aspects like staying connected with friends and maintaining a fan page.
So we know social media can be good and also bad.
What we have to remember though, is that social media is not neutral.
Social media websites are not going to stay dormant or complacent when you’re online.
It’s the opposite that’s the case, they try as hard as they can to make you stay online.
Many tricks are thrown at you to make you hooked.
“Just stay online for 5 minutes”
“You know what, check that profile as well for just 5 more minutes”
“Since you’re online, why not place a comment underneath that post?”
“You can log off yes but first check this for just 5 min”
The companies want to monetize your eyeballs.
The longer you’re online + the more data you give to those companies = more money for them.
There is a manipulation game going on and you’re not even aware of it.
Social media is not neutral. Be mindful about your social media session.
Know what you want to do in your account and for how long, then log off or close the app.
